A group of Reformed pastors and influencers has wedded old-school segregationist theology with the hypermasculinity of the manosphere and the savvy of the attention economy to preach and sell white supremacy, antisemitism and patriarchy to angry young men. Its audience is small but growing, and their movement has ties to powerful religious and political figures.

New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie says the decaying Republican Party has finally lost the strength that for years kept dangerous party infestations at bay. And now the GOP is pest-ridden with a certain element that rhymes with “Swazi,” or maybe “Stasi.”
“This is not slander or pejorative or innuendo; it is the plain truth of the matter, a conclusion drawn from simple observation,” said Bouie. “And the problem has been getting worse. Consider a few of the people staffing the Trump administration.”
Bouie points to Paul Ingrassia, the former acting general counsel of the General Services Administration, who withdrew his nomination after offensive remarks from his social media and group chats got out.
“I do have a Nazi streak in me from time to time, I will admit it,” said Ingrassia in a 2024 text. He said in another message: “We need competent white men in positions of leadership,” and “The founding fathers were wrong that all men are created equal … We need to reject that part of our heritage.”
There’s also Nate Hochman, a young Republican operative fired from Gov. Ron DeSantis’s 2024 presidential campaign for promoting a DeSantis video that used a Nazi symbol. He’s now in the White House, serving as a speechwriter for Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“And there are the young staffers responsible for the Trump administration’s social media presence, who use their large and influential platform to share Nazi-inspired rhetoric and post Nazi-inspired memes,” said Bouie. “In January of this year, for instance, the Department of Labor posted a video with the caption ‘One Homeland. One People. One Heritage. Remember who you are, American,’ a line that echoes the Nazi slogan of ‘Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer’: ‘One people, one realm, one leader.’”
Social media accounts for the Department of Homeland Security “show a steady stream of memes and images drawn from neo-Nazi and white supremacist agitprop,” added Bouie.
“Keep in mind that these are not staffers’ private accounts; these posts are reaching the public through the official organs of the U.S. government,” said Bouie. “ … In Georgia, the Republican Senate nominee Mike Collins has had to answer for a former staffer who posted Nazi images online as well as a photo of himself in full Ku Klux Klan regalia. And Collins’s son-in-law, David Alan Scheer II, is a white nationalist and online influencer with a history of posting Nazi imagery.”
This, he said, is a problem for young Republicans their 20s and 30s.
“That is no coincidence; it is clear that among the young staffer and operative class of the Republican Party are people with neo-Nazi sympathies and white supremacist views,” said Bouie. “Last year, for example, leaked messages from a group chat of Young Republicans from chapters across the country — who ranged in age from 18 to 40 — included racial slurs, support for Nazi ideas and a declaration of admiration for the leader of the Third Reich, all framed as jokes.
The party has attracted racist elements since the Nixon years, but Bouie said the institutional Republican Party was “strong enough to keep these views, and the underlying forces that fueled them, away from its center of gravity.” But that’s no longer possible in the days of the “total collapse of the traditional Republican establishment.” Now it is incapable of policing its boundaries since President Donald Trump “opened the floodgates of the party to the far right.”
Now the illness is spreading, said Bouie, as indicated by the way House Speaker Mike Johnson defended Brandon Herrera, the winner of the Republican primary for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, who is also a far-right YouTube personality, who has published videos “that feature Nazi imagery and Nazi military anthems, joke about the Holocaust and showcase Nazi weapons.”
“Perhaps there will be some seismic shift that derails the far-right capture of the Republican Party. But this feels like wishful thinking,” said Bouie. “If the past decade is any guide, then the fever, if that is what we want to call it, is only going to get worse.”

- rww --> Michelle Goldberg @ The New York Times: He Says Obscene Things About Mothers and Children. Mike Johnson Is Raising Money for Him.
Because this is a family newspaper, I cannot quote the piquant term that Brandon Herrera, a Republican House candidate in Texas, used to refer to children in a 2023 video. I can only report that he called them “trophies” for getting a man to ejaculate. Nor, alas, am I allowed to repeat the obscenities that Herrera, a gun influencer, used to explain why the opinions of mothers are without value. I can only say that he argued, essentially, that getting pregnant requires no special skill. Two weeks ago, ahead of a fund-raiser that Mike Johnson, the House speaker, was holding for Herrera, The Austin American-Statesman reached out to Herrera’s campaign about these resurfaced comments. Herrera’s team responded with a crude visual pun that, once again, is too vulgar for me to describe here.

far-right Youtube influencer Brandon Herrera is set to face-off against incumbent US Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) in a primary race Tuesday. The Daily Beast reported in March that "'a Trumpworld source' said Herrera would be 'a disaster for Republicans' if elected."
A Sunday, May 26 Daily Beast article reports the "**gunfluencer" — who has over 3 million subscribers — recently "posted to YouTube a video in which he wears a balaclava, fires an Armalite rifle, uses Irish stereotypes while joking about the IRA [Irish Republican Army], and says he 'f–king hate[s] the British.'"
The Beast reports:
*The Armalite assault rifle was an American gun that became synonymous with the Provisional Irish Republican Army or IRA, the dominant republican terror group during the Troubles, the period of violent unrest in Northern Ireland and mainland Britain from 1968 to 1998.
*The accepted death toll from the Troubles, established in the book Lost Lives by authors David McKittrick, Seamus Kelters, Brian Feeney, Chris Thornton and David McVea, is 3,720. The Provisional IRA killed more than 1,700 people–hundreds of them civilians. According to Ulster University, a college in Northern Ireland, more than 47,000 people were injured in shootings, bombings and other acts of violence

Vice president of the gun control group Giffords, Chris Harris, told the Beast, "Brandon Herrera is reckless and dangerous. He gleefully promotes violence and extremism."
The Beast also notes:
*Also known as the AK Guy, Herrera has more than 3.4 million followers on YouTube. His videos have courted trouble before. Earlier this year, in response to a video in which Herrera fires a German World War II submachine gun (which he calls 'the original ghetto blaster') and goose-steps while an associate wears a German uniform, Gonzales branded his opponent a 'known neo-Nazi.'
*Herrera denied the charge, saying: 'This is the death spiral ladies and gentlemen. He has to cry to his liberal friends about me, because Republicans won’t listen anymore.'
Gonzales's district — which Herrera is vying for — includes Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers in 2022.
While the YouTuber has secured support from hardliner GOP lawmakers like US Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Herrera may have hurt his chance of securing a primary win in March when he posted a video making fun ofDonald Trump's son, Barron.

"I’ve heard that Brandon Herrera has a problem with keeping his mouth shut and has a problem with saying stupid stuff, and this is just the tip of the iceberg," a Republican operative told the Beast. "Brandon Herrera is going to have a very bad time over the next couple months if what I’ve heard is true."
Former Anti-Slavery International director Aidan McQuade, who's from Northern Ireland slammed the GOP hopeful "for displaying 'jaw-dropping stupidity'" in the video.
"It is quite an achievement to make a video of which the anti-Irish stereotyping is the least offensive part," McQuade told the Beast.
