<p>Proof is a measure of the level of alcohol in the spirit. Back in the days you had to prove that the strenght was right by adding gunpowder. If it ignited it was 100 proof or more. 100 proof equals 57,1% ABV.&#160;

Unless you are in the States.100 proof equals twice ABV thus 50% ABV.</p>
