Spice Route Era

The Au'Kael came to some prominence in the middle ages during the golden age of the Spice Routes, when goods from east and west crossed the continent in caravans. The Au'Kael served as transporters and middlemen for the sections of the trade routes which crossed the Veldt. This brought in new foods, goods, arts, and knowledge. As such, this is when their few settled population centers, Afyon in particular, was able to grow and take on much of the form it was know for in later times. Many aspects of Au'Kael style, arts, and material culture was greatly altered and enriched at this time. Though they themselves seldom ventured outside the greater Veldt region, since it was dangerous for Heterodox birds to the west, and there was always lingering fears of traveling east. Nevertheless, it is at this time cities like Tyre, boltered as a hub of trade, also began to receive influxes of Au'Kael merchants who lived and worked in the urban settings.
