Ranks and Uniforms
Page - The first level initiates. Pages typically spend time learning the basics of the order, getting educational skills, and perform many errands and tasks assigned them by mentors and older order members. Their uniform is a white doublet with grey trimmings, unadorned except the golden-colored marks of the order on the collar.
Squire - When a Page reaches a certain level of competency, they are assigned or chosen by a knight, who takes them on as a Squire, which is like an apprentice. The squire then spends their time learning from the Knight, who teaches them the more specific skills and practices of the Order. Their uniform is a doublet colored medium grey, but trimmed in the personal colors of their mentor. The left breast is emblazoned with their mentor's personal badge. Most distinctly, the squires had spaulders on their shoulders. These are mostly ceremonial, but the wearing of armor signifies they are ready and permitted to bear arms.
Knight - the main rank of order members. When a Squire is deamed ready by their mentor, or by another knight, they are Dubbed, which elevates them to the full rank. The knights are very egalitarian within their ranks, having no real seniority or heirarchy. But the Order can assign knights to temporary commands or positions of responsibility. A knight may chose their own colors for their doublet, though many typically keep it as greyish-blue standard uniform color but trimmed in their own personal colors. Knights may have their own Badge/crest/coat of arms to be displayed on ther doublet. Swordbelts are worn, as the mark of knightship.
Knight Banneret - A knight who has had specific command of forces in the field. This is typically a temporary rank, relinquished upon completion of the particular assignment. In addition to their standard knight uniform, they wear a decorative gorget around their neck and upper chest, and have the right to display a special banner bearing their coats of arms.
Palladin - If a knight has distinguished themselves, the Order may acclaim them a Palladin, a position of high honor and prestige, but with little other actual duties or power except for their influence, and the privilege to sit in and speak at meetings of the High Council. Uniform doublets are longer-cut, white in color but trimmed in gold and bronze, with their personal badge done in grey filigree pattern. A sash is worn across the chest, secured by a decorative broach in the shape and colors of their personal coats of arms.
Sergeant - Members of the Order who are never dubbed as knights. They usually begin as pages, squires or outsiders. They act as stewards, soldiers, and administrative staff to the other order members. Their uniform doublet is dark grey, trimmed in white and red, and bearing no personal badge, except for the Order symbol on the collar. They have small metal shoulder-shields that display their rank and grade. The Sergeant At Arms, most senior non-annointed Order member, wears a single decorative pauldron.
