5. Mayran Formation

Mayran Formation

A layer of clay-rich sandy matrix, enriched in iridium and heavy metals, with assorted debris that, in many cases, is either partially melted or displays shocked quartz crystals. This layer was formed directly from fallout of the Mayran Impactor, and is found globally as a marker layer. While usually only a couple centimeters thick, its thickness is much greater, up to a meter or more, in the Veldt and areas surrounding the Mayran Sea.
