2. Trans-Veldt Intrusive Suite

Trans-Veldt Intrusive Suite

Found throughout the Veldt and surrounding regions are many intrusive stocks and dikes, often forming prominent ranges of hills or singular inselbergs. The suite consists of two primary named units, and many dozens of unnamed intrusive bodies on much smaller, localized scales. These plutonic units all tend to be fairly high in silica content, indicating they formed from some of the final stages of magmatic cooling. Most are very course grained, indicating they were emplaced at depth and had significant cooling time underground. Usually classified as a group due to similar age ranges, compositions, and textures, this is still more or less a grouping of convenience. There is significant evidence that most of these intrusive bodies were formed in separate magmatic events, deriving from different magmatic sources. Nevertheless, the grouping is a way for scientists to denote all of these assorted plutonic bodies that all date from before the Eastern Kael Unconformity.
