Thaila ul'Rani

One of the main characters in the Crosswinds story. She is a very street-smart Kael in early adulthood who lives in the old districts of Lower Sectors of Kalahasi, among a community of other Au'Kaels.

She was recognized very early on as exceptionally bright and witty, and so was given over to the care of Rin Sharai, the Bard and Master Reader of the community to teach and foster. As such, she has had a mixed education, never having attended formal schools, but instructed by her community's leaders, readers, and bards in the various traditions of her people. As such, and living so much in and about the various warrens of the city, Thaila is sort of a bridge between older and newer ways, and her foster parent sees great things in her future.

She recently met a young Chae officer in the Alliance Fleet, one Cayden Tasseri, during a night of misadventure. And the two struck up a quick friendship, continuing to correspond as Cayden is deployed.

In years after Crosswinds, she becomes a popular musician, blending old modes of music with influences from contemporary music themes.
