- Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance by automating payroll, expenses, and benefits in one integrated platform. Hi David and Katy,
Please can you share a copy of our contract with Rippling.
I would like to understand what all we have signed up for with Rippling, and what our rollout timeline is.
I ask because there are areas where modules/functionality provided by Rippling may overlap areas that may be provided by Connetic, for example, device management, as well as areas we are looking to cover either ourselves or along with Connetic, such as antivirus.
Good news is that Connetic has worked with several clients that have deployed Rippling, so they are familiar with Rippling's capabilities.
Thank you!
5/3 - Katy:
Absolutely! Can we review all these details next week?
Rippling is focusing on payroll right now and we have the whole month of May still to continue working through our implementation/setup process. We wont be addressing their IT module until AFTER we have made the migration to Microsoft.
I’ll put some time on our calendars for next week.
5/2 - kms:
Next week will be fine, thanks. Perhaps Thu or Fri, after the dust of the Google To Microsoft Migration has settled!
Knowing what we have signed up for and will be getting as part of Rippling will help prevent duplicate work, such as rolling out antivirus if that will be included as part of Rippling.
Thanks
May 9, 2024, 3:00 PM Meeting with Katy.
Setting this time aside for us to review the RIPPLING implementation steps regarding IT and teamwide/employee applications.

Run Webinars every week.
5/20 email to Katy - discussion points for the Rippling call. Katy forwarded to Rippling.
The list of issues and questions I would like to run by Hunter during the Rippling App Management Kickoff call tomorrow:
- Integration with Microsoft which has replaced Google as our email and collaboration provider.
- Noting that some Google accounts may remain in play.
- RPass discussion
- What exactly is RPass - we understand it to be a password and SSO manager. Is that correct?
- Are we required to use RPass to support application integration and SSO with Rippling, or can we use our existing password manager, 1Password?
- If we are required to use RPass to leverage Rippling, can RPass replace all aspects of 1Password? Including using 1Password for all our passwords, not only the Rippling-related passwords?
- Or will it be better to use both RPass and 1Password?
- How do other companies who have pre-existing password managers deal with this situation?
- We see that 1Password is available as an app in Rippling's list of apps. What are the implications of this fact?
- .
- The mechanics of using Rippling to onboard and offboard employees
- How does Rippling procure & decrement licenses?
- Does Rippling effectively log into each app as an administrator and then add or remove the employee accounts requested?
- Rippling is not a Microsoft licensor. We need to ensure we have licenses.
- Therefore reach out to Connetic to let them know that we have an onboarding.
- Or have a couple licenses on standby.
- We use Connetic, a MSP (Managed Services Provider) to administer our IT, including the administration of devices and our Microsoft environment.
- We need to ensure a smooth interface and relationship between Rippling and Connetic.
- What/where is the ideal handoff point with Connetic? Seems to be App Provisioning -> Device Provisioniing
- .
- We do want to deploy virus protection and MDM, but do not want to pay for the same services more than once.
- Since our Microsoft Business Premium licenses include cyberattack protection and device management, we need to discuss if it will be worthwhile paying for Rippling's AV and MDM services. It may be most cost effective for Rippling to handle app provisioning, then hand off to Connetic and Microsoft Intune for device management and AV.
- Needs discovery call with Account Manager.
- Ask about removing personal Apple IDs on computers.
- .
- Custom App Integration, for example, ZipRecruiter
- Walk through the effort and benefit of integrating an app such as ZipRecruiter. (for one person)
- Can use a Dashboard link in Custom app
- Our Technology Stack includes over 20 apps, e.g., Trello, Zapier, VerifyPass, ShareASale, Klaviyo, Avalara, etc.
- Discuss best approach / ROI to integrating all these apps with Rippling. Putting it another way - at some point it may not be worth the time and effort to integrate every app, for example, apps used by only one person. Or is it best to assume that we integrate every app?
- How handle all of these?
- .
- Is there an app for Catalyst or DISC? https://catalyst.everythingdisc.com/login (personalized learning platform)
- Use a direct link.
- Presentation from Hunter
- Hunter Willis, Atlanta GA. IT Specialist. Available to be pinged.
- Hunter: The key objective of our engagement is to complete 5 paid app integrations by 6/7. Three weeks out.
- Today focus is email integration.
- Hunter will help us set up 5 Paid Apps, e.g., Slack, Zoom. And Email.
- Microsoft Integration with Rippling - Done with Connetic’s assistance.
- Need Admin credentials for Microsoft
- Hunter - trying to connect Rippling tenant to Microsoft tenant. Can be a user account or a service account. Need someone to be logged into both Rippling and Microsoft. Not necessarily the same account.
- Joshua logged into Rippling, then into Microsoft, and facilitated.
- SSO
- Once SSO turned on, everyone by default will have to login via Rippling.
- Exceptions have to have SSO turned off in Microsoft.
- Work with Connetic to turn off SSO for some users, e.g., Service account, ksmith.
- May not be needed if we use 1Password.
- TBD.
Follow Ups (Hunter)
- Can bookmarked links be assigned by attributes?
- Inquiring with the team.
- Custom offboarding policies in Microsoft?
- Inquiring with the team.
Next steps
- Review the notes from the call.
- Take the App provisioning course - in my home screen.
- Set up some other apps on our own. Noting we need admin access to each app.
May 28, 2024, 1:30 PM call with Hunter
- Hunter: For our next call, we’ll discuss App Management + RPass.
- Katy has a list of questions, including these below:
- License Management - Microsoft
- You said last time that Rippling is not a Microsoft license provider.
- But, per Help Center / Apps / App Guides by Vendor / Microsoft: Rippling's Microsoft integrations support a range of features from single sign-on to API-based user & license provisioning. Allocating.
- 5/28 - Hunter: Provisioning, not purchasing. Understood.
- License Management - Other Apps
- Can Rippling manage license purchases & removal for any other apps? Apps purchased through Rippling?
- 5/28 - Hunter: Google, Dropbox, 1Password. Docusign TBD.
- How do I manually select who should get access to an app?
- Doco states:
- To manually select who can have access to an app during the onboarding process, you can make individual exceptions to the default app assignment logic. Here’s how you can do it: During the new hire onboarding flow, you can override the default settings by either granting or revoking app access on a per-employee or per-contractor basis. 2. This allows you to adjust which apps are assigned to any individual new hire, regardless of the pre-configured access rules.
- The Overview tab for each app is different: Some say Grant Access, other say Create, others nothing
- 5/28 - Hunter:
- Doco states:
- RPass vs 1Password
- We are leaning toward deploying RPass to replace 1Password, for a more seamless, one-stop-shop experience.
- It appears that we can export from 1Password and import into RPass
- Any gotchas, loss of functionality?
- 5/28 - Hunter:
- RPass is included with our licensing tier.
- RPass functions very similarly to 1Password.
- RPass is browser extension only, no applicaiton
- RPass can import from 1Password.
- Next steps:
- Home > RPass > Invite Employees
- Download Chrome extension; PIn the extension.
- RH Vault - make folders.
- Personal Vault (work vault)
- Hunter will check support for other browsers.
- 5/28: RPASS Extensions for other browsers- As of right now, RPASS is only available through the Chrome browser extension.
- Hunter will check if individual users need to import each of their own vaults.
- 5/28: 1Password RPASS Migration - I found this Help Center article that outlines the 1Password to RPASS migration. IT looks like for anything stored in the Company Level Vault would be a one time migration and users with the proper permissions would be able to see passwords in the company vault. However for users' individual vaults, they would need to go through the export / import themselves.
- Can kms get access to RPass without a Rippling account?
- No. Will need Rippling account.
- .
- Custom Apps - Direct Links
- “DISCCatalyst does not currently support automatic account creation. Please create an account for Katy DeRado (Director of HR & Accounting, Finance/Accounting/HR) in DISCCatalyst, and then Rippling can manage that account's access.“
- But Rippling indicated it would set up SSO once DISCCatalyst was in place! Don’t understand what that means.
- Also, comments re naming convention or Custom Apps. E.g., no spaces or underscores?
- 5/28 - Hunter: There is a true version of SSO, and there is an RPass-version
- SSO
- Can we use for some apps and not for others? E.g., for Bill.com but not Microsoft?.
- Yes
- Confirm that if turn on SSO, by default everyone has to use it.
- Assume that is the case, but depends on vendor.
- 5/28 - Hunter:
- There is a true version of SSO, and there is an RPass-version
- Can we use for some apps and not for others? E.g., for Bill.com but not Microsoft?.
- Workflow Studio
- There is a good help center introductory (video) along with pre-baked workflows. Hunter will share
- 5/28: Workflow Studio -Intro to workflow studio help center article.
- You can pay for “Advanced” workflows.
- Offboarding Process
- Hunter: Different for each app
- Microsoft - look at Offboarding tab, at this point it simply Suspends the account.
- Other Apps
- Shopify - SSO only.
Microsoft Intune.

Katy: We need to digest internally. Won’t move within a month.
Rippling team will send quote for MDM
Test deploying MDM on an existing Mac.
6/5 call with Hunter and Katy:
- How integral is RPass to Rippling?
- IOW, if not all users have Chrome (Justin uses Safari), since the RPass browser extension only works on Chrome.
- Hunter: Only impact is not being able to use RPass. Remainder of Rippling will be fine.
- kms: We can picture it like this - we are simply replacing the 1Password app with the Google Chrome app running RPass.
- To what extent can we secure the Rippling login?
- In the context of Rippling becoming an access point to other systems if we implement SSO.
- For example, can we configure Rippling to require a relatively complex password and MFA?
- In addition, if we don't have MDM in place, there is a risk of an unfriendly person accessing an employee's device, using the credentials saved in a web browser to log into Rippling and thereby gain access to other apps linked using SSO.
- Hunter: Really need MFA in place.
- Run through the Rippling Security Settings and options in detail
- Currently Legacy
- Hunter: Suggest Rippling Recommended with MFA. Any authenticator is OK. Duo Push too.
- The scary Rippling password reset message:
- "If you’re using RPass, you will lose access to your RPass Personal Vault items when you reset your password. Try to remember your previous password before resetting. Please use personal email or phone number"
- What does this mean? Never reset your password if you use RPass?
- Hunter: Appears that it will remove your personal vault. But Hunter will research.
- 6/6 - Hunter:
- For the RPASS password issue. Please see this help center article which outlines recovering your RPASS vault after resetting your password. Additionally I have confirmed that if the user is updating their password (i.e: due to pushing out a password policy) and they have their old password, they will not lose their vault.
- kms: All I can find is: “If you're an RPass user, you will lose your personal vault items when you reset your Rippling password. This is because RPass is a zero-knowledge password manager, and resetting your Rippling password means you've lost the key to the passwords stored in your RPass personal vault.”
- They will only lose their vault if they truly need to reset their password without access to their original password.
- kms: This is a typical scenario! Plan B: Backup / export passwords as CSV - insecure?
- kms: 1Password has comprehensive support for forgotten password, including Emergency Kit, or asking a family or team member to recover your account.Plus many steps at If you forgot your 1Password account password or you can’t unlock the app
- 6/10: Discussed this with Katy:
- David had downloaded RPass, and is not a fan of it.
- Katy is neither. I confirmed that
- Boittom line - leave this for know.
- Explain Quickbooks integration, which seems to indicate a combination of SSO and RPass
- SSO through RPASS, iow, user still has Quickbooks credentials.
- Kevin’s Rippling account can’t log in
- No company found in this account. If your company uses single-sign-on, please try again using your work email.
- Hunter working on it.
- 6/6 - Hunter:
- Kevin's permissions.. I was taking a look at the permission profile that is configured for the Director of IT and it seems it is locked to being able to view sensitive information.. What I would recommend here is creating a new permission profile and locking it down to the parameters you defined and having Kevin reassigned over there. I am happy to hop on a call and go through that with you if you'd like. Let me know what you think. You can schedule a call here.
- .
6/21 email to Hunter cc Katy:
I know that you have worked on preventing this, but I am still getting the "Upcoming RH tasks" emails, which should not be the case.
6/21 - Hunter:
Hey Kevin,
Could you reach out to our support team to tackle this? They should be able to pinpoint the issue.
On the Rippling home page there should be a support button in the top right.
Thank you!
June 21, 2024, 2:13 PM - Chat witih Rippling:
kms: I continue to receive "Upcoming <company> Tasks" emails, even though I should not be.
In his onboarding role, Hunter Willis worked on this, and asked me to contact Support.
Chat: Click on your account icon in the top-right corner of Rippling and select Account settings. 2. Go to the Notifications tab. 3. Click the Edit button in the Notification Preferences section. 4. For Task Reminders, select Never to turn the notifications off. 5. Click the Save button to save the changes.
This should stop the emails from coming through. If you continue to receive them after making these changes, please let me know!
kms: I have done that. It's somewhat of a symptomatic fix, but will do. Thank you.
