Microsoft Outlook functionality on a Mac

Bottom line, as far as I can tell:

"Outlook.com" (on a Mac or any platform) has all the functionality needed - Email, Tasks, Calendar, etc., but "Outlook.com" only connects to Microsoft as the cloud/backend mail service. It does not connect to other mail providers, such as Google.

The "Outlook for the Mac" application can connect to any backend, e.g. Google, but it only does this for Email. It does not support Tasks, Contacts, Calendars functionality for non-Microsoft backends.
