Statics
(physics) The branch of mechanics concerned with forces in static equilibrium
Statics is the branch of classical mechanics that studies the equilibrium of physical bodies under the action of forces and moments.
A body is in static equilibrium when it has no translational or rotational acceleration. Therefore, the resultant force and resultant moment acting on the body are both zero:
[
\sum \ma thbf{F}=0
]
[
\sum \mathbf{M}=0
]
Statics is applied in engineering to analyze structures and systems such as beams, trusses, bridges, buildings, and machines.
