Meyer’s Sporting Goods
1957-08-02 - Ben Meyer Buys Davis Sport Store
John Davis, owner of Davis Sporting Goods, said this week the arrangements in the sale of the store had been completed with Ben Meyer, who will open in a new location Tuesday.
The sale announcement followed on the heels of the State Liquor board’s approval of the transfer of the local retail store from Davis to Meyer.
Meyer’s Sporting Goods will open Tuesday, August 6 in the location formerly occupied by Rollie’s Cafe. Meyer said that he plans to expand the type of sporting goods handled by Davis and add many new lines of stock.
Davis handled hunting and fishing equipment for the most part, and Meyer said that he plans to extend his business to include athletic equipment as well.
Meyer will be an authorized dealer for both Spaulding and Scott-Atwater companies as well as operating the Cheney liquor store. He indicated that he might expand the stock there as well.
The store will open following the liquor board’s inventory of its stock and the transfer of stock from Davis to Meyer. The stock is the property of the state.
1957-08-09 - Delay Slows Store Move
A delay in the inventory of stock of the Washington State liquor store in its present location has forced Ben Meyer, new operator, to postpone the opening of his new establishment at the corner of First and D(?) streets.
Meyer plans to open the Sporting Goods store Monday, after he has had time to transfer the liquor stock. He said that the liquor store will be open from noon until 8 pm., and that he would continue to operate in the present location until Monday.
