Old Normal Highway

In 1918, the route north to the Sunset Highway was paved with concrete and named the Normal Highway. The highway was completed in 1920. The highway was a major transportation improvement for access to and from Spokane. It also helped to speed the demise of the electric train to Cheney, was the road made it faster and more convenient for farmers to drive their milk cans to the processors in Spokane rather than via the train's time table.

The route connected Cheney through Four Lakes to the Sunset Highway (Hwy 2). It was the first paved highway from Cheney.

Just a small section of the original route remains going straight north off of Hayford road.
