1957-09-06 - Potlatch Sign Goes Down; Bestway Takes Over Store
The long-familiar Potlatch Yards sign over the local store is going down, and will probably never be seen again.
That was the word received here this week from D.E. Fisher, Spokane, division manager for the Potlatch stores. He explained that the name was being changed to Bestway Building center, but the store would remain the same.
The rebranding of the Potlatch store is being done throughout the state under plans which were laid when the Potlatch system merged with the Boise Cascade corporation of Boise, Idaho, in July.
Work connected with the change in name here has begun and includes preparation of new signs, repainting of the store, special promotions, and display improvements, according to C.B. Joice, manager of the Bestway Building center in Cheney.
In instituting the change, A.E. Montgomery, vice president and general manager of retail operations for Boise Cascade said, "We are very optimistic regarding this newly acquired addition to our retail family."
"The state of Washington holds unlimited possibilities for growth and development. Our intention is to expand and improve our services, products, and facilities to accommodate all facets of the building industry such as the home builder, handyman, the vast farm market, and the do-it-your-self market."
The new Bestway Building center will comprise a large segment of the Retail Sales Division of the Idaho firm. The Boise Cascade corporation is now operating retail lumber and hardware stores throughout Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Oregon, and Colorado.
