1964-10-02: Burglar Hits Edgett's Store Monday Evening; Licenses, Tags Stolen
A burglar made off with $10 in cash and some $2,500 in hunting licenses, duck stamps, deer and elk tags sometime Monday night from Edgett Brothers' Store.
Entry was gained through a small window in the rear of the store. Police Chief Jim Crawford said the window measures about 16 by 18 inches.
The intruder took a small safe which was sitting on top of Edgett's regular-size floor safe. It contained the game licenses and tags, but no money. The $10 was in a desk drawer that was forced open and taken.
No attempt was made to open the big safe, and the burglar apparently disregarded all merchandise in the front of the store. Also untouched was a watch which was on the desk top and some other loose money in another desk drawer.
The break-in was discovered by Roy Duty, an electrician employed at the store, who normally arrives at work before the rest of the crew.
Investigating were Crawford, Patrolman Clarence Brown, and two detectives from the county sheriff's office. Fingerprints were taken at the scene.
The burglar, or burglars, left by the back door, which was locked from the inside by a bar.
