Model Barbers First to Use the Permutit Softener in Cheney
The first to use the Permutit Water Softener for commercial use in Cheney, the Model Barber and Beauty shop has had the advantages of soft water for over two years.
Speaking of the apparatus, Warren Meyers said, "The device has enabled us to give our clients a real soft water shampoo, a distinct advantage in beauty work. The soft water shampoo is the best way to prepare the hair for a permanent wave and we believe from our experience with the Permutit system that hair so cleaned will take a stronger, more lasting curl."
"We are highly pleased with the results we have obtained since installing the softener and many of our patrons have expressed similar sentiments," said Ernie Larson, one of the proprietors.
1939
Ernie Larson is going to have his barber shop cool, if he has to join the American Inventor's congress to do it…
Tuesday morning, he had the panel above his shop entrance out, and in its place a pad of damp excelsior to serve as a filter. Inside a packing box served as a temporary enclosure for a big fan that directed the cooled air down through the shop. Note from the CFP of July 1959: apparently it worked, since Ernie is still using the air-conditioner - and good weather for it too.
"It's just a tryout," Ernie explained. "If it works, we've only to connect up a pipe to drip water on the pad and build a nice, tight box inside and we'll have our own air-conditioner."
