Long’s Electronics
1987-10-08: Long's Electronics, possibly the most noticeable building downtown Cheney with its brand-new coat of bright green paint, has been evolving over the past couple of months, and is looking forward to more changes in the not-too-distant future.
The business, located at 513 1st, is nearly three years old, but has been heading a new direction the past couple of months, since being purchased by Rich Greinert and Dave Berdis.
With their combined expertise -- Greinert in the field of video and Berdis in computers -- the two hope to develop a business that meets the needs of the diverse Cheney community.
One emphasis, Greinert said, is to establish a strong retail environment. The shop will sell computer hardware and software, and new televisions, VCRs, microwave ovens, and auto stereo systems.
As Berdis says, the shop will seek to provide customers with "anything electronic."
Berdis and Greinert can do that because they belong to a buying group that has access to most retail lines of equipment. That affiliation also allows them to "meet or beat" the prices, on most items, that are being charged in Spokane.
But despite the changes, the relatively-new owners aren't abandoning the practice of servicing electronic equipment.
As the offerings of the business evolve, both say, a new name for the operation is coming closer. Maybe by spring, they say, or maybe sooner, their firm will operate as American Shopper, a reflection of their involvement in the buying group and ability to order a wide variety of items.
The shop is open from 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, and from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday.
