"Politically Incorrect"

Christian Encouragement September 5, 2000 Yesterday, we found out that Gov. Davis just signed into law that anyone who says anything contrary to a homosexual regarding his/her sexual practices will be charged with sexual harassment. This means if we, as Christians, or anyone else, were to speak against the homosexual lifestyle and share God's Word with them, WE are in trouble. Our daughter, Laura was given several hot topics to choose from in order to write an essay in her English class this week. The instructor chose the list of topics and the one Laura chose was Homosexual Marriages and Adoptions. This happened last week before Gov. Davis' new law. She did a bang-up good job on it and even backed it up with scriptures. Now.....what to do. She's turning it in without politically correct changes. She isn't afraid. HURRAY...... I cheer her on and thank the Lord for her fearlessness. When our son, Ryan was in the 9th grade, he had a Science teacher who was an evolutionist and taught evolution as FACT instead of THEORY. Ryan stood up and told his teacher it was not true and told the teacher and the class it was GOD who created all things. His teacher wasn't pleased. When he came home that day, he asked me to take him to the Bible bookstore to look for a tee shirt. He found a shirt that had a spiral of stars and had...IN THE BEGINNING...GOD written across the front of it. He was sooo pleased, he wore it the next day. He wore it boldly....as a banner across his chest proclaiming GOD as the Creator of all things. Then his Christian friends starting buying and wearing various tee shirts proclaiming their stand for the Lord. HURRAY. I cheered them on, thanking the Lord for their fearlessness. Last night driving home from church, out of the clear blue, Sean told his dad and I that he loved us. Of course we told him we loved him too. Then, he told us that he's been noticing how people act at school. He said they're mean to each other and they fist fight a lot. He said he wonders what their home life must be like because they act like they don't have parents and if they do, their parents must not be good parents. He said he's different from them. He acts and looks different. He was glad for this. Then he THANKED us for being good parents and for teaching him good things and caring who his friends are and where he goes. I almost fell over. I know Sean and I can tell when he's telling the truth and when he's trying to hurl a big one over on us. These words were coming from his heart. He's told us before that he feels better being in church around church people than he does being at school surrounded by lost people and their ways. Sean doesn't hesitate to wear Christian tee shirts either, especially since his PE teacher last year gave him a thumbs-up on one of his shirts and told Sean he was a Christian too. Sean still beams when he talks about it. HURRAY. I cheer him on and thank the Lord for his fearlessness. He's coming along. Do we have 3 perfect children? No. Are they always fearless when confronted with opposition to God's Word? No. But they're on their way. God is leading them (my babies) down and up the roads He has chosen for them. God is doing His perfect work through all of us who love Him, sometimes, in spite of ourselves. Politically correct? Not when the laws go against God's Word. Fearlessness is having boldness of spirit to speak God's Word gently without caving in to the opposition out of fear or embarrassment. May we all be fearless, and in this day and age with the powers that be so prevalent...may we not strive to be politically correct. With love in Christ, Debbie Reed-Parman
