First time with a late payroll
1st time was in 1973 while I worked for Bob Walton, an investor that owned a shopping center, dry cleaners, and photo processing kiosks.
One of my tasks was to bring mail to the post office. On one particular day, as I was driving to the post office with the mail, it shifted as I drove around a corner. Without being conscious of it, I closed the glove compartment that held the outgoing mail.
On my next work day a few days later, I was met by my boss, ordinarily a mild-mannered man. He asked where the mail was, and we walked to the car together to discover it was in the glove compartment. He kept his cool as he told me that people were relying on their paychecks. I immediately took them to the post office.
2nd time was 2023, when PayChex flaked out on me.
