About the founder of The Sustainability Web
Hi, I am Olaf Brugman. Please be welcome to the Sustainability Web, which I founded and am curating. I am a sustainability practitioner with over 32 years of experience in improving the functioning of organizations and networks to contribute to sustainable development and learning.
I have done so fulfilling managerial, consulting and academic roles, both in private sector, public and non-governmental organizations.
My main areas of expertise are sustainable development, management and organization, financial services and banking, knowledge management, systems sciences and education. Please take a look at my professional profile if you wish to learn more about me.
Why have I created The Sustainability Web?
I created the Sustainability Web since I believe that organizations and societies face the challenge of a range of complex or "wicked" problems. To solve these problems, we need to act upon integrated thinking and knowledge. Integrated thinking looks at our challenges from a broad perspective, aggregating experience, insights and capabilities from different people in different places, applying different perspectives to shape a variety of solutions. To this end, information needs to flow better between people and institutions.
For learners, students, managers and even professionals, it is often difficult to see the bigger picture and to connect the dots.
The Sustainability Web gives people access to a carefully curated collection of relevant knowledge sources on sustainability to enable people to design more effective actions and contribute to sustainable development.
For whom?
The Sustainability Web works fort hose who take a professional interest in sustainability: decision-makers, sustainability practitioners, researchers, policy-makers and students.
What content to expect?
The Sustainability Web adds value to readers by carefully selecting high-quality information and pointers to knowledge sources, organizing knowledge sources into practice-relevant content.
Content may consist of (links to) relevant sources such as news, books, articles and research publications, audio or video, images, analyses, commentaries, relevant organizations, standards, and professional tools. The Sustainability Web will add its own proprietary content in the future.
The Sustainability Web values fact-based content and inspiring thought from multiple schools of thought and practice.
There is no place for content or language that is disrespectful our discriminatory to people.
How is The Sustainability Web different?
The Sustainability Web is different from other websites on sustainability through the content it brings together and through organizing it and making it accessible in a visual way that schematically connects thoughts and information as a concept web that allows the user to navigate the collection in flexible way. The Sustainability Web is a concept browser based on knowledge management principles. The organization and presentation of content has been created using powerful knowledge management software from TheBrain®.
How is this initiative funded?
The Sustainability Web is 100% self-funded by its founder. I do not receive funds nor charge fees for promoting specific content at this moment. The Sustainability Web may offer proprietary content for sale in the future. If you would like to support this resource, you can buy me a coffee here: obrugman. This will help me to maintain this website and the technology behind it.
Independence
The Sustainability Web operates autonomously and independently in selecting, curating and publishing content and in opining on it.The Sustainability Web does not reflect opinions or preferences of organizations its founder is affiliated with through employment or administrative relationships.
