Processes and Procedures

Schema is derived from About APQC | APQC

This APQC Process Classification Framework® (“PCF”) is an open standard developed by APQC, a nonprofit that promotes benchmarking and best practices worldwide. The PCF is intended to facilitate organizational improvement through process management and benchmarking, regardless of industry, size, or geography.

Within this section of the model ”a process is a broad approach to achieving an outcome in a series of steps, while a procedure is a specific set of instructions for completing a particular task within a process**.” In addition, a process is most likely to be the sequence of people or offices needed to complete the task whereas a procedure covers the detailed steps an individual or small group needs to complete before moving it on. Ideally processes are documented by process flow diagrams (a sentient type), and less effectively by some other form of text document indicated by the Process Text Document type. Procedures are usually in text, spreadsheet, or task management formats and are indicated as the Procedure type.
