Sikhism (/ˈsɪkɪzəm/), more properly known as Sikhi (Punjabi: ਸਿੱਖੀ Sikkhī, [ˈsɪk.kʰiː] (
listen), from ਸਿੱਖ, Sikh, 'disciple / learner'),[i] is an Indian religion,[7] and is a philosophy,[8] that originated in the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent,[ii][9] around the end of the 15th century CE.[10][11][12][13][14][15]
It is one of the most recently founded major religious groups and stands at fifth-largest worldwide,[16][17][18] with about 25–30 million adherents (known as Sikhs).[19][20]
