Proconvertin (Factor VII)
Return to Cardiovascular System Menu
Proconvertin, also known as Factor VII, is a clotting factor produced by the liver. It's a serine protease glycoprotein that requires vitamin K for production.
Factor VII is responsible for:
- Starting a cascade of proteolytic events
- Thrombin generation
- Fibrin deposition
- Platelet activation
Factor VII, along with other clotting factors and blood cells, promotes blood clotting
at the site of an injury. This forms normal blood clots and closes the wound to prevent blood loss.
