-oid

A suffix meaning 'related to' or 'derived from.' Example; <i>terpenoids</i> and <i>terpenes.</i> Often these two terms are used interchangeably but strictly speaking, terpenoids might include some molecules that do not fit the exact definition of a terpene, but are, for example, modified derivatives of terpenes.
