Lanceleaf Thoroughwort

Eupatorium lancifolium is a North American perennial herb that is also known as lanceleaf thoroughwort. It is a member of the sunflower family and can grow up to 3 feet tall. The leaves are relatively narrow and the plant grows in clay-based soils in open areas.

Eupatorium lancifolium has a fruit called a cypsela, which is often referred to as an achene. Most species of Eupatorium prefer to be planted in damp areas, such as near ponds and wetlands. They should be located in full sun or part shade, but sheltered from afternoon sunlight.

Other members of the Eupatorium genus have been used for medicinal purposes to treat fevers, colds, bronchitis, and skin diseases.
