CTRP1 (C1q/TNF-α–related protein 1) is a protein that's part of the CTRP superfamily. It's located on human chromosome 17.
CTRP1 is an antihypotensive protein that increases in response to glucocorticoids during dehydration. It also has the following functions:
- Ischemia-reperfusion injury: Limits the extent of injury in acute myocardial infarction
- Platelet aggregation: Inhibits aggregation by blocking von Willebrand factor
- Insulin resistance: Related to insulin resistance in pregnancy
- Metabolic disorders: May play a role in the pathophysiology of metabolic disorders
CTRP1 is also associated with diabetes. In mice fed a high fat diet, CTRP1 prevented: Obesity, Hyperglycemia, Insulin resistance, Fatty liver.
CTRP1 is a multifunctional adipokine with collagenous and globular C1q-like domains.
Loss of CTRP1 disrupts glucose and lipid homeostasis
CTRP1 protects against diet-induced hyperglycemia by enhancing glycolysis and fatty acid oxidation
