Triangle Bursage

Ambrosia deltoidea is a flowering plant in the aster family. It's also known by the common names triangle bur ragweed, triangle bursage, and triangleleaf bursage.

This shrub is native to the Sonoran Desert and is the main understory plant in the deserts around Phoenix and Tucson. It's an evergreen, rounded shrub with small, aromatic, triangular gray-green leaves. The leaves are no more than 2 centimeters long.

Ambrosia deltoidea is drought-deciduous, meaning it loses its leaves in very dry periods. It's mostly biologically active during winter and quiescent during summer.

Ambrosia deltoidea is a semi-woody perennial subshrub that grows up to 2 feet tall. It has many thin branches and a taproot with many lateral and adventitious roots. It generally has many dead branches tangled in the living crown.

Ambrosia deltoidea is essential for most revegation efforts. It functions as a nurse plant to the seedlings of many other natives.
