Stinging Nettle, Notes - Holmes

NOTES -- HOLMES

Nettle herb's excellent blood restorative and nutritive effects depend largely on its content in trace minerals, chlorophyll, proteins and the enzyme secretin. Blood deficiency is replenished only partly because of an increase in red blood cells. Liver Yin functions of nutrient storage and blood detoxification are also enhanced. We should especially think of Nettle for blood deficiency conditions compounded by toxicosis, intestines (Spleen) Qi deficiency or endocrine deficiency -- especially of the adrenal cortex.

Nettle herb provides excellent support for complex metabolic disorders, especially when they involve the connective tissue and/or endocrine deficiencies. Allergies, arthritis and eczema do extremely well in this respect. With its lung-strengthening properties the botanical should also be included in formulations for lung Yin deficiency disorders, notably lung TB. As a silica-containing plant, Nettle duplicates Horsetail's effect on this organ and on the connective tissue in general.

The remedy's very comprehensive detoxicant actions also indicate use in conditions of metabolic toxicosis -- insufficient breakdown or elimination of metabolic wastes. Nettle provides deep, all-round support in a large range of treatment strategies.

Working Primarily on the blood level, Nettle herb is also a medium-strength hemostatic and astringent for hemorrhage.
