CTRP-4

CTRP4 stands for C1q/TNF-related protein 4. It is a secreted protein with two tandem C1q domains that functions in the hypothalamus to modulate food intake. CTRP4 is a member of the adipocytokine superfamily and is an important regulator in glucose and lipid metabolism.

CTRP4 is most highly expressed in the brain in zebrafish, mouse, and human. It acts in the hypothalamus to modulate food intake in diet-induced obese mice. Loss of CTRP4 alters adiposity and food intake behaviors.

CTRP4 also acts as an anti‐inflammatory factor in macrophages. Treatment of macrophages with exogenous CTRP4 abrogated proinflammatory cytokine production.

CTRP4: a new member of the adipocytokine family ...The CTRP4’s roles in promoting tumor cell proliferation in vitro and suppressing inflammation and tumorigenesis in vivo indicate that CTRP4 may have different functions depending on cell types, receptors and/or cell context.
