Testicles

Return to Endocrine System Menu

Testicles, also known as testes or balls, are two oval-shaped male sex glands that produce sperm and sex hormones. They are the main part of the male reproductive system.

Testicles are located in a sac of skin called the scrotum, which hangs behind the penis. Each testicle is about 5 cm long and is covered by a fibrous outer covering called the tunica albuginea.

Testicles produce testosterone, the male hormone responsible for puberty. They also produce sperm.

Testicles should be maintained at a temperature of 34.4 °C, which is slightly below body temperature. Temperatures above 36.7 °C can impede spermatogenesis.

Some things that can cause testicles to swell include:

Supplementation with A. melanocarpa juice slows down aging processes in the testis.
