Poncirin

Poncirin is the 7-O-neohesperidoside of isosakuranetin. Poncirin can be extracted from trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata)

Poncirin is a flavanone glycoside found to be present in the Poncirus trifoliata and Citrus reticulate having bitter taste. Biological importance of poncirin for their anti-inflammatory activity through inhibition of PGE2 and IL-6 production has been investigated in the scientific field. Biological importance of poncirin against bacterial, viral infections, gastric disease and human gastric cancer has been investigated in the medicine. Pharmacological data analysis revealed the biological application of poncirin against bone loss, inflammation, colitis, human gastric cancer, gastritis, liver injury and alzheimer's disease. From the analysis of the presented scientific information of poncirin it was found that poncirin have significant biological activities and health benefit in the modern health sectors for the treatment of human health complications and could be used as a drug in the future.

Human Biological Effects

Poncirin (isosakuranetin-7-\(O\)-neohesperidoside) is a bitter flavonoid glycoside found abundantly in the fruits of various citrus species, most notably in Poncirus trifoliata (trifoliate orange) and certain traditional citrus cultivars. Preclinical pharmacological research involving human cell lines, ex vivo assays, and animal models highlights several distinct biological and therapeutic effects.

1. Anti-Inflammatory and Immunomodulatory Actions

2. Metabolic Regulation and Antidiabetic Support

3. Hepatoprotection and Lipid Metabolism

4. Bone Health and Cellular Differentiation

5. Cardiovascular and Ischemic Protection

Note: As with similar citrus glycosides, these insights are based on in vitro and animal investigations; comprehensive human clinical trial data confirming therapeutic dosages and clinical pharmacokinetics remain sparse.
