Plaque Psoriasis
Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of the disease and appears as raised, red patches covered with a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells or scale. These patches or plaques most often appear on the scalp, knees, elbows and lower back. They are often itchy and painful, and they can crack and bleed.
80-90% of all psoriasis patients suffer from plaque psoriasis.
Capsaicin has also been found to be effective in the treatment of plaque-type psoriasis. It is worth noting that the first few applications of topical capsaicin often result in burning and stinging. These symptoms diminish with continued use. However, in two studies it was noted, the dropout rate was significant due to these reactions.
