Thoracic Spine

When lumbar spinal stenosis occurs in conjunction with stenosis at a different level, such as in the cervical spine (neck) or thoracic spine (middle back), it is called tandem stenosis.

When you adjust the thoracic spine you can influence the sympathetic nervous system.

Sympathetic and parasympathetic responses to specific diversified adjustments to chiropractic vertebral subluxations of the cervical and thoracic spine. Conclusion: It is preliminarily suggested that the cervical adjustments may result in parasympathetic responses, whereas thoracic adjustments result in sympathetic responses. Furthermore, it appears that these responses may demonstrate the relationship of autonomic responses in association to the particular segment(s) adjusted.
