Loblolly Pine
Loblolly pine is the most common and important timber producing species of all the southern yellow pines. Pinus taedahas the largest range of all the SYP's (extends through 14 states) and makes up over one-half of the standing pine volume in the southern United States. Forest nursery production of loblolly pine is primary in the southern region of the United States. Loblolly orchards are genetically managed and supply much of the seed used in state and private nurseries. This pine species makes up the bulk of all improved tree seedlings used for planting harvested, site prepared forests and non-seeded agricultural conversions to trees.
