Thyme, Prep & Dose

Infusion is best for daily maintenance and for promoting sweating in cold and flu onsets. The tincture is good for general use and includes an astringent action. The essential oil is the strongest preparation as it represents at least 3/4 of thyme's properties (but see cautions)

This is one of the main remedies for respiratory complaints and, therefore, Thyme syrup should be a prominent preparation. Mouthwashes, gargles, douching and inhalations for upper and lower mucosal infections are also good. SALMON (710) recommends a snuff that "purges the head of pituitous humours". The mouthwash is a stronger anesthetic for the mouth, gum and teeth than Clove. Invigorating whole body baths are taken for fatigue, cold, arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc. Bronchial infections can be treated with a warm compress or ointment.
