Tsel (rtsal)

To understand how your inner state projects the world you experience, Dzogchen describes energy through three modes: Dang (gdangs), Rolba (rol ba), and Tsel (rtsal).

Think of a clear crystal ball: **

🔶 Dang is its inherent, transparent essence that remains pure regardless of what it reflects.

🔶 Rolba is the energy that appears "inside" the crystal, like internal reflections or subjective visionary experiences.

🔶 Tsel is the energy that refracts "outside," like rainbow rays hitting a wall, forming the objective world we perceive.

For a practitioner, the goal is to recognize that all three—the essence, the inner visions, and the external world—are simply the natural, uninterrupted glow of one’s own primordial state. **

In the Dzogchen teachings, the energy of the primordial state manifests in three specific modes or "modes of energy." These terms describe how the internal potential of the individual appears as reality:

These three modes demonstrate that all dimensions—whether material or subtle, pure or impure—are manifestations of a single energy.
