This red tree is across the street from Effy, the tree I photographed in “Matrix” moments earlier. I wanted to capture the contrast of color and light. I am also conscious of line and position of my subject, so at first I kept the road in but then I moved in closer to remove it. I moved forward again and noticed the line of the street lamp; it was not centered under the light. I moved to the left until my eyes could see a “YUGE” lit candle in the trees!

I didn’t check my work until the next evening when I notice how much the photos looked like watercolors.
