Post-it Note

Post-it note

ALTERNATIVE NAME/S:

DETAILS/DESCRIPTION:

Post-it Notes are small notepads of paper that have adhesive on one edge of the pad.

The adhesive is durable enough for the note to stick, but light enough that the Post-it Note will not damage the item or leave any residue.

Post-it Notes come in 8 different sizes, 62 shades, and 25 shapes.  Scientists at 3M*, the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, developed the post-it note.  In 1968 Dr. Spencer Silver created the adhesive, and Art Fry later came up with the idea of using it for notes when he was looking for something to mark his page in a church choir hymnal book.

In 1978, 3M used Boise, Idaho as a test market for the Post-it Note.  The response was overwhelmingly in favor of marketing nation-wide and this had occurred by 1980.

There are, to date, over 600 products with the Post-it Note label, and 3M has incorporated the adhesive material onto other products.

Virtual Post-It Notes have been created for computers in the form of desktop notes. ... In 1997, 3M sued Microsoft for trademark infringement for using the term "Post-It" in a help file.
