🌿 ABOUT THE FRANCHISE
Swamp Thing is one of DC Comics' most influential horror characters, originally created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson in 1971.
Its most famous incarnation is Alec Holland, a scientist whose apparent death in a laboratory explosion leads to the emergence of a monstrous, plant-like creature inhabiting the swamps of Louisiana.
Initially conceived as a tragic horror monster, Swamp Thing gradually evolved into a complex supernatural entity connected to the Green, a mystical force encompassing all plant life on Earth.
Alan Moore's revolutionary reinterpretation established Swamp Thing not merely as a transformed human being, but as an elemental consciousness shaped by nature itself.
Later writers expanded this mythology through the Parliament of Trees, rival elemental forces, alternative dimensions, cosmic entities, and the complicated history of the Holland family.
Across its many incarnations, the franchise explores environmental destruction, human identity, mortality, transformation, love, and the relationship between civilization and the natural world.
Its mythology is closely connected to John Constantine, Hellblazer, and other supernatural characters of the DC Universe.
