Copying thoughts or brain to another #96157
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/96157
Hello Mary,
Thank you for reaching out! Yes, you can copy a Brain or duplicate sections of it in a couple of ways:
1. Copy and Paste Thoughts
If you only need to duplicate a few thoughts, you can manually copy and paste them into your new Brain:
- Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) on your keyboard and left-click on the thoughts you want to select.
- Once selected, right-click and choose Copy Thoughts.
- Open your new Brain, right-click on the desired location, and Paste the thoughts.
You may watch this video for your reference: https://www.thebrain.com/support/tutorials#selecting-multiple-thoughts
(If you do not follow this method, you may still see links to the original thoughts instead of fully copying them.)
2. Backup and Import as a New Brain
If you want to duplicate the entire Brain, you can create a backup and import it as a new Brain:
- Create a Brain Archive (.brz) of your existing Brain:
- Go to File > Backup Brain > Create Brain Archive (.brz)
- Import the .brz file into a new Brain:
- Go to File > Import Brain Archive
- Select the option to add the imported thoughts as a new structure instead of merging them into an existing Brain.

This method allows you to create a reusable template while keeping your previous study notes intact.
Let me know if you need any clarification or further guidance!
Best regards and God Bless!
