CHATGPT EXPORT TO THEBRAIN #97895

Hello Sage!,

Thank you for reaching out and for sharing more about your project, that sounds like an exciting use case.

  1. Data volume: The amount of content you describe (30,000+ pages across 100+ sessions) would not be a problem for TheBrain. It’s designed to handle very large Brains smoothly, so you can work confidently with that scale of data. (we had users create way past millions, case example: https://app.thebrain.com/brain/3d80058c-14d8-5361-0b61-a061f89baf87/32f9fc36-6963-9ee0-9b44-a89112919e29)
  2. Importing OpenAI exports: At the moment, TheBrain doesn’t have a built-in import option for OpenAI/ChatGPT export files. OpenAI provides their conversations in a custom JSON/Markdown format that’s not directly supported by our importer.
  3. That said, we see a lot of potential here. The structure of the export (JSON + Markdown) is actually a very good fit for TheBrain, and we’ve logged this as a feature request for version 15. It’s something we expect to be able to support relatively easily in a future release. (really soon!)
  4. For now, if you have programming experience, you could use our API to import the conversations by parsing the JSON export and creating Thoughts/Notes programmatically.
  5. The general flow would be:

I know that’s not the instant solution you hoped for, but we’re optimistic this will become a smoother workflow in TheBrain 15.

Best regards,

John
