Any Plans on Linux-Version #99073
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/99073
Hello Rolf,
Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and technically detailed message, and for your long history with TheBrain, including your past beta testing on Linux. We really appreciate that perspective.
At the moment, there is no native Linux desktop version of TheBrain, and there are no confirmed plans or timelines to bring the desktop app back to Linux. While version 15 introduces a more unified cross-platform architecture, the current desktop clients are still officially supported only on Windows and macOS.
You are absolutely right that much of .NET itself runs well on Linux, and we’re aware of projects such as Avalonia and UNO that aim to close remaining gaps. That said, bringing TheBrain back to Linux as a fully supported desktop application would still require significant engineering work, testing, and long-term maintenance, so it’s not something we can commit to at this time.
For now, Linux users generally have two supported options:
- Use the web client at
- https://app.thebrain.com
- which works well in modern browsers and continues to improve.
- Run the Windows desktop version inside a virtual machine. This is more reliable than Wine for complex applications like TheBrain, especially for large Brains and heavy daily use.
That said, continued interest from experienced users like you absolutely matters. If you haven’t already, you’re welcome to add your voice to the existing Linux request here:

We regularly review that feedback when evaluating future platform directions.
Thank you again for reaching out and for sharing both your experience and your ideas. Please don’t hesitate to get back in touch if you have further questions.
Kind regards,
John
