Doug Morrisson, Copying Brain Content for Cerebro Testing #100861
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/100861
Hello Doug,
Thank you for checking that.
The import wording can be a little confusing there. For your goal, I would avoid manually changing the GUID or using anything that tries to duplicate the Brain as the same original Brain. The safer path is still to create a new empty Brain first, then import the Brainzip into that new Brain as content.
Please try it this way:
• Create a new empty Brain first, such as “Cerebro Test Copy.”
• Open that new empty Brain.
• From inside that new Brain, import the Brainzip.
• Choose the option to import into the current Brain / import as a child thought.

That should bring the backed-up Brain content into the new Brain instead of trying to reuse the original Brain identity.
The phrase about linking to the old Brain may be referring to the selected/current thought or the way the import is being attached under a thought. The important point is that you are importing the Brainzip into a newly created Brain, not trying to reopen the same Brain archive as the same cloud Brain.
For the copy/paste method: copying the home thought by itself will only copy that one thought. It will not automatically include all of its children unless those thoughts are selected too.
If you want to copy a whole branch manually, you can do this:
• Select the starting thought.
• Right click the selection box.
• Choose Select Related.
• Set the direction and number of levels you want to include, such as children/descendants.
• Once the full group is selected, copy the selection.
• Open the new Brain and paste it there.
That method can work too, but for a full Brain copy, the Brainzip import method is usually cleaner and easier.
Best regards,
John
