Michael Holst – Brains Folder on Network Drive Causing Access Restricted #99587

https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/99587

Hello Michael,

Thank you for the additional details and screenshots.

We reviewed the log, and it appears your Brains folder may be set to a network location instead of a local folder on your PC. Specifically, it looks like it may be pointing to a DFS network path.

This can cause exactly the type of issue you are seeing, including:

Please check the current storage location:

In the first input box, confirm what path is shown for your Brains folder.

If it is set to a network drive, it should be moved back to a local folder on your PC. The recommended location is:

C:\Users{your username}\Brains

After changing the storage path back to a local folder, perform the MetaDB reset again:

  1. Close TheBrain completely.
  2. Open File Explorer.
  3. Paste this into the address bar:
  4. %LocalAppData%\TheBrain\MetaDB
  5. Rename TheBrainMeta.db to TheBrainMeta.db.old
  6. Restart TheBrain and sign in.

Once the Brains folder is local, the issue should resolve permanently.

Please confirm what storage path is currently set before making the change.

Best regards,

John
