Inquiry About Accessing and Extracting Thought Relationship Data from TheBrain (Liang) #97496
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/97496
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out, and for your thoughtful question, we appreciate your interest in exploring TheBrain at a deeper technical level.
We’ve recently released a public API that allows users to programmatically access Brain data, including Thoughts, relationships, and structural metadata. You can learn more about it and request access here: https://www.thebrain.com/blog/introducing-thebrain-api
That said, the API is intended as an open resource for technically inclined users, we’re not offering direct support for it at this time. If you’re comfortable working with code and have the resources to build around it, the API should give you what you need to query relationships like parent, child, and jump links programmatically.
To your specific questions:
- These relationships are stored in the local database, but the API provides a cleaner and more accessible way to extract that data.
- The structure includes Thought IDs, link types, and directional relationships, formatted in a developer-friendly way (e.g., JSON).
- The API is currently the best (and only supported) method for accessing this type of data externally — but again, it’s self-serve, and we don’t offer hands-on support for implementation.
We’d love to hear what you build with it, and if you run into general questions or want to share your use case, feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
John
