fetching a page’s title when creating a Thought from a link #97882
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/97882
Hello A. Thomson,
Thank you for writing in and explaining what you’ve noticed. I can understand how frustrating it is when the links don’t behave as expected.
There are two things at play here:
- Thought title vs. note body
- If you edit the title field at the very top of the Notes area, that will also update the Thought’s name in the Plex and the title bar.
- Editing only the body of the notes/description will not change the Thought’s name.
- Linking from web pages
- In older versions like TheBrain 10, fetching a page’s title when creating a Thought from a link may no longer work reliably, since many websites (including Wikipedia) have changed how they provide metadata. This can result in the domain name (e.g. en.wikipedia.org) being used instead of the page title.
- In TheBrain 14, the correct page title should normally appear. Could you please try adding a new Wikipedia link directly in version 14 and let us know if you see the same behavior there?
If the problem persists in 14, a short screen recording along with your Output.log (Help > Open Log Directory) right after reproducing the issue would help us track this down further.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. We are here for you.
Best regards,
John
