Customer Darren wanting static mindmap #97132
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/97132
Hello Darren,
Thank you for reaching out, and for the thoughtful insights. It’s clear you’ve explored the software in depth.
At this time, the Outline View is designed to show the hierarchy relative to the currently active thought, which is why other branches collapse when switching focus. While this behavior isn’t configurable, your suggestion for a more persistent, always-expanded layout is appreciated and makes a lot of sense, and the Mind Map view is the closest we have to it, though there is a limit for that due to screen real-estate.
You can set the default layout to Outline View or Mindmap or Extended Normal view by going to:
Options > Preferences > Look and Feel > Plex > Default Layout → choose your desired view.
As for the Mind Map View, it does attempt to keep structure visible across branches, but it dynamically adjusts node placement to maintain balance, including shifting thoughts between left and right. What I do as a work-around is to expand all the child thoughts within a parent and it then keeps itself static.
There currently isn’t an option to lock branch directions or fully disable animations. You can adjust animation speed via:
Options > Preferences > Look and Feel > Plex > Animation Speed.
To back up or move your Brain, just go to:
File > Backup to Brain Archive. This creates a .brz file containing all your thoughts, attachments, and settings. You can re-import it later via File > Import > (.brz).
