Opening old brains #98342

If your old Brain was created around 10–15 years ago, it was likely built in version 8 or earlier. To open it in the current release, you’ll first need to convert it through TheBrain 8 before importing it into TheBrain 13.

Here’s how to do that:

1. Download and install TheBrain 8.0.2.2 from this link:
2. https://assets.thebrain.com/downloads/TheBrain_windows_8_0_2_2.exe
3. Open your old Brain in TheBrain 8.
4. Go to File › Create BrainZip to export it.
5. Close TheBrain 8.
6. Open TheBrain 13.
7. Go to File › Import, select “TheBrain 8 Brain (.brainzip)”, and choose your exported file.
8. Let the import process complete, it will automatically convert the Brain to the latest format.

Note: Updating icons can take the longest during import. It may appear frozen at times but will resume after a few minutes.

Once done, your Brain should open normally in v13.
