Aaron, linked file and folder behavior after reinstalling TheBrain #100313

https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/100313

Hello Aaron,

Yes, those linked file and folder references should remain in the Brain after uninstalling and reinstalling TheBrain, as long as the Brain itself is synced back from your account or restored from a backup.

However, linked files and folders are stored as references to a location on your computer. TheBrain does not upload the actual external file or folder when it is only linked.

So after reinstalling:

If the file or folder is still in the same location on the same computer, the link should continue to open normally.

If the file or folder was moved, deleted, renamed, or the drive path changed, the link may still appear in the Brain, but it may not open until the file or folder is restored to the expected location or relinked.

If you open the Brain on another computer, those linked file or folder references may also not open unless that computer has access to the same file path or location.

Before doing a clean install, please make sure your Brain is fully synced or backed up. I would not recommend manually deleting your local Brain data unless you have confirmed that everything important is safely synced or backed up first.

Best regards,

John
