We are going to repair a corrupt database #99039

https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/99039

Hello HeeDong,

Thank you for your patience while we reviewed the log file more closely.

We’ve identified the reason syncing stopped after November 26. The local database file for this Brain is corrupted, which is preventing TheBrain from exporting newer changes for sync. Unfortunately, when this happens, the app is unable to repair the database automatically.

Because you have about 20 days of newer work locally that has not synced, deleting the local Brain and re-downloading the older cloud version would result in data loss, so we do not want to do that.

The next step is for our development team to attempt a manual repair of the Brain’s database file. To do this, we’ll need a copy of the database file from your system.

Please follow these steps carefully in TheBrain 14:

  1. Open the affected Brain.
  2. Go to File → Statistics.
  3. Note the Local ID shown there (for example: U01/B17).
  4. Go to Preferences → System → Storage and note the folder path shown for your Brains data.
  5. Close TheBrain completely.
  6. Open File Explorer and navigate to the Brains folder path you noted.
  7. Open the folder matching the Local ID (for example: U01\B17).
  8. Locate the file named Brain.db.
  9. Make a copy of that file and attach it in your reply to this email.

Important:

After sending us the Brain.db file, please do not open or make changes to this Brain on this computer until we return a repaired version to you. Opening it again could overwrite changes and make recovery more difficult.

If you need to view the Brain in the meantime, you may do so using the web client or another device, but please avoid editing it locally.

Once we receive the file, we’ll forward it to our engineering team and let you know the outcome as soon as possible.

Thank you again for your care and patience. You’ve handled this very carefully, which gives us the best chance of recovery.

P.S. Please make sure that no 3rd party cloud app is syncing on TheBrain folder directory, as this is the main cause of data corruption.

Best regards,

John
