Full brains folder and metadb reset #97869
https://thebrain.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/97869
Hello Guy,
Thank you for the detailed report and for attaching the logs. From what you described (stale “Last Synced,” login rejected, unexpected error), your desktop is very likely pointing at a corrupted local copy. Your cloud data should be safe (your laptop is current), so let’s refresh the desktop with a full reset.
Before proceeding, please confirm one of the following:
- You can see your Brains at https://app.thebrain.com, or
- You have .brz backups.
Note: the next steps remove local copies on this desktop.
Windows (full reset):
- Rename the Brains folder
- Go to
C:\Users\[your username]\Brains - Rename Brains to BrainsOld (prevents using corrupted data)
- Go to
- Reset MetaDB
- Go to
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\TheBrain\MetaDB - If AppData is hidden: File Explorer > View > Options > View tab > “Show hidden files”
- Rename TheBrainMeta.db to TheBrainMeta.db.old
- Go to
- Relaunch TheBrain and sign in again. The app will rebuild a fresh local database and pull the latest from the cloud.
This usually clears the bad “email/password” prompt and restores sync. Please let me know the result. If anything still looks off, force a sync and send the new Output.log and the latest Error Reports folder created after the reset, and we’ll dig deeper.
Best regards,
John
